Rooted in Resilience
Derek Fell was raised in Vigo County and shaped by the challenges that came with a humble upbringing. He didn’t grow up with wealth or advantage, but he was raised with strength, grit, and the unwavering support of his mother—a constant rock in his life. These early experiences instilled in him a deep sense of empathy, perseverance, and a calling to serve and protect the community he calls home. From a young age, Derek developed a deep respect for law enforcement. That admiration turned into action when he joined the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office in 2002. What began with a passion for the job’s fast pace and purpose quickly grew into a lifelong commitment to service, responsibility, and continual growth.

A Career of Service and Leadership
Over more than two decades of dedicated service, Derek has held roles across multiple divisions within the Sheriff’s Office. Each position offered valuable insight into the complexities of public safety and leadership. Through it all, he has remained committed to learning, adapting, and leading by example—believing that growth never ends, no matter how much experience you have.
Following the unfortunate passing of Sheriff John Plasse, Derek was honored to be caucused in as Vigo County’s 54th Sheriff. While his original path to candidacy shifted, he embraced the responsibility with humility and clarity—determined to honor Sheriff Plasse’s legacy while forging his own leadership path.
A Vision for Community and Commitment
As Sheriff, Derek Fell is focused on building bridges—not walls—between law enforcement and the people it serves. He believes that public safety is a team effort and that transparency, accountability, and strong community relationships are essential. His priorities include ensuring officers are well-equipped and trained, maintaining proactive public safety strategies, and delivering service with integrity and compassion.
Vigo County has always been home to Derek and his family, and he’s proud to serve the community that helped shape him. With a vision rooted in service and unity, he is seeking election to continue leading as Vigo County Sheriff—with passion, care, and unwavering commitment.
